Founded in 1979, the New Canadians Centre Peterborough (NCC) is a non-profit charitable organisation dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees and other newcomers in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, City and County of Peterborough and Northumberland County. The NCC empowers people who are new to Canada, so they can be recognised as equal and valued members of Canadian society, and provides leadership to cultivate their meaningful economic, social, and cultural inclusion in our community.
The New Canadians Centre (NCC) is deeply grateful for the continued partnership and trust of the McKay Family Foundation. Your generosity has helped hundreds of newcomers find stability, employment, and belonging in our community. The grant you provided in 2024 continues to make a life-changing difference across Peterborough, Northumberland, Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes. Your investment strengthened our Life Skills and Employment Readiness programs.
As that funding continues through March 2026, we are now looking ahead. Your support will enhance our Adapting to Life in Canada program beginning in April 2026. The program brings together Employment Readiness and Language for the Workplace to help newcomers gain confidence, economic independence, and a sense of belonging in Canada. With arrivals increasing and language barriers deepening, now is a crucial moment to prevent long-term unemployment and social isolation amongst new Canadians.
