Where We Give

CGMH Foundation

The Collingwood General and Marine Hospital Foundation (CGMH) inspires the communities of South Georgian Bay to invest in the facilities, equipment, programs and services for the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital. With 90% of all the Equipment and Technology at the G&M Hospital funded by community support, the Foundation successfully carries out many large fundraising initiatives to fund the hospital’s most critical needs.

“On behalf of our entire team at the Collingwood G&M Hospital (CGMH) and Foundation,  and the 3.5+ million people that depend on us for care, I am thrilled to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation for the McKay Family Foundation’s generous commitment, which will be directed to the Tomorrow’s Hospital campaign to build a new hospital in South Georgian Bay.  This new facility is projected to open as early as 2033, to meet the ongoing and evolving needs of our patients and families in a growing community. Some of the new features include expanded surgical, diagnostic, rehabilitation and ambulatory care programs.  In addition, building on your generous support of the CGMH Simulation Program, a new state-of-the art learning centre will strengthen inter-professional education, training and research and underpin recruitment and retention of top healthcare professionals.”

Windmill Microlending

Windmill Microlending is Canada’s only national charity providing affordable loans to help skilled immigrants and refugees pay for accreditation, training and career development. Founded in 2005, Windmill Microlending has delivered more than 10,000 loans to new Canadians, helping them transform their potential into prosperity.

“Thanks to the generous support of the McKay Family Foundation, Windmill has established a dedicated loan capital fund aimed at helping newcomers to Ontario build brighter futures. During its first year, the fund supported three newcomer clients. We are proud to share an update on the positive outcomes of this meaningful initiative, which has played a vital role in offering essential financial support to individuals who face obstacles on their path to achieving professional goals. More than just a financial resource, this fund represents a deep commitment to strengthening communities by opening doors to opportunity and empowerment.

During its second year, the fund supported seven additional newcomer clients- healthcare professionals in Ontario- thanks to the foundation’s second gift. To date, this internal fund has provided direct support to ten clients, helping them overcome challenges and move forward in their careers.

The McKay Family Foundation’s donation was deployed partly to support Windmill’s Prosperity Fund, which went directly into the hands of Windmill clients, supporting their journey toward economic success, and partly to Windmill’s Propel Fund, which provides tailored career success support to their clients. “

New Canadians Centre (Peterborough)

Founded in 1979, the New Canadians Centre Peterborough (NCC) is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to supporting immigrants, refugees and other newcomers in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton County, City and County of Peterborough and Northumberland County. The NCC empowers people who are new to Canada, so they can be recognized as equal and valued members of Canadian society, and provides leadership to cultivate their meaningful economic, social, and cultural inclusion in our community.

“The New Canadians Centre (NCC) is deeply grateful for the continued partnership and trust of the McKay Family Foundation. Your generosity has helped hundreds of newcomers find stability, employment, and belonging in our community. The grant you provided in 2024 continues to make a life-changing difference across Peterborough, Northumberland, Haliburton, and the City of Kawartha Lakes. Your investment strengthened our Life Skills and Employment Readiness programs.

As that funding continues through March 2026, we are now looking ahead. Your support will enhance our Adapting to Life in Canada program beginning April 2026. The program brings together Employment Readiness and Language for the Workplace to help newcomers gain confidence, economic independence, and a sense of belonging in Canada.  With arrivals increasing and language barriers deepening, now is a crucial moment to prevent long-term unemployment and social isolation among new Canadians.”

Interprovincial Music Camp

Interprovincial Music Camp (IMC) is an overnight summer music camp that offers young musicians the unique opportunity to participate in orchestral, band, jazz, rock, musical theater, and songwriting programs while enjoying the wonderful setting of one of Canada’s finest summer camp facilities. Founded in 1961 by Ben and Sheila Wise, IMC is a Non-Profit, Non-Sectarian Charitable Foundation serving young musicians ages 9 through 18.

“IMC is excited by, and grateful for, the McKay Family Foundation’s interest in supporting its Beginning Band program.  This program, more details of which are set out below, would be the focus of any grant that the Foundation provides.  In particular, we would allocate funds to ensure that recipients of bursaries would continue to be from newcomer communities.  This has historically been the focus of bursaries in the Beginning Band program, and we will ensure that this continues to be the case for any funds we receive from the Foundation.”
